Bill Peet's CARS

So I'm surfing around Bill Peet's website and I find these old designs for the Disney short, "Susie the Little Blue Coupe." I've yet to see the short, but these designs look uncannily like Pixar's character designs for CARS. See for yourself:

I duno. I guess there's only so many ways to design cars, but I feel like Bill Peet must have had a pretty strong influence...wouldn't be surprised if they had pulled some of his drawings from that handy Disney archive. Visit Bill Peet's site for more pictures from "Susie."

I completely agree with you. I saw the preview for "cars" last night, and the first thing that popped into my head was "Those look like the old Disney cars!"

I recently went to the MoMA and saw the Pixar exhibit there (really cool) and I remember thinking I've seen this style car somewhere before. Actually I thought it a long time ago (my company licenses Disney and I saw some of the "Cars" stuff in development). Anyway, your example just might be it. I remember there was a short about a car (was it a taxi?) that was about to be a 'Dad' and then there was a baby car - is this it?? Did Bill Peet do that?! I LOVE BILL PEET! I grew up with his picture books, they were always among my favorites!

I quite liked Disney's short of Susie back when I was a kind. But I didn't remember how it looked like until now. They look really similar. :O
